Road Show Pinball Topper Mod

Toppers for pinball's are pretty common. Factory toppers are always preferred but many people just build their own.  Roadshow being a crowd favorite and a favorite of my own needed a topper and not just any old topper would do. I decided to build a topper that acts and functions like a real topper and also looks like it could have been made from the factory to fit. In comes my creation.

My topper is simple.  A unique sign "Construction Ahead" that fits the game title nicely, and a functioning light show consisting of two rotating beacon lights that will spin and light up the room during multiball mode. The topper is professionally made out of aluminum, a controller circuit board inside the topper, and 2 real rotating 12v beacons outfitted with 2 LED (89's) omni direction light poles.

How does it work?
I've installed into the light fixture a controller board circuit that controls the on and off feature when the signal is received from the drive motor circuit of the blade on Ted's mouth. Nothing too fancy but works good. See video below for demonstration and read the NEED TO KNOW.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW!!  Please read and understand it.
The toppers are tied to the motor on Teds Dozer Blade. That means whenever it activates so does the topper. Teds Blade is intermittent, meaning during multiball it goes up it pauses which means it stops, then goes down and pauses again before going up again. With each pause the signal stops. Normally if you have a power source like a light tied to this it would go off and on with each pause. The circuit in my light mod is a retriggering timer relay which means when the blade pauses, the light will not stop and will continue for 10 seconds, when the blade goes up it sends a new 10 second signal to the light which means the lights run continuasly during multiball as they get retriggered each time the blade moves which makes for what you see in the videos. A pretty cool continuous topper. There is an exception during multiball where there is a chance the lights could stop. When you hit jackpot in teds mouth the dozer blade drops down until you hit Reds mouth jackpot to restart the dozer motor. That means after Teds mouth jackpot the lights run for 10 seconds and will stop unless you manage to hit Reds Jackpot mouth and keep things going. In Roadshow the jackpots alternate back and forth until you loose 2 balls. If the lights do stop it's not a big deal because when you do eventually hit Red's mouth jackpot then the jackpot alternates back to Ted which means the dozer blades move up and down again and the light show runs again. It's a very minor side effect but I really need everyone who is interested to understand this. When multiball is over, Ted's blade stops and the lights will stop after 10 seconds. If you drain all 3 balls at once well, first off you suck, but if you do, then sometimes you may get a little left over flashing lights into your next ball. Usually just a few seconds. All of my test people had absolutely no issues with these effects and are on my list of buyers. They had nothing but great comments to say.

How to Order and How Much?
Price is $150.00 + ship. Currently I am only gathering interest. If you are interested then shoot me an email at roadshowtopper@gmail.com and I'll put you on my list of interested buyers. Those on the list will get first dibs if I decide to build and sell some.

Kit Contents
Topper sign with beacons fully assembled, 1 Wire harness with all connections attached, 4 screws to secure the topper down and a set of instructions.  This would be everything needed for an install. Topper dimensions are as follows. 20.5 inches wide by 8 inches tall at the tallest point of the domes.

Installation
No soldering required, harness will have all connections needed for fast plug and play type installation. Directions will be in the manual and I will post them here once it's complete. More to come soon.

Good News and Bad News
"I George Washington cannot tell a lie." The lights look amazing and work great in multiball mode as I intended. However, there was a side effect that snuck up on me. There is a shot that if hit will cause the blade to raise briefly and the lights will come on. It's the super skill shot, lightly plunge the ball, let it roll back down the right inlane, then hit the left bridge out ramp. This will cause one of several random reactions from Red and Ted. One of those reactions is that Ted will raise his blade, drop his mouth then close it all up again way before the ball returns to the flipper as if a reaction of excitement to your skill shot, and Red will make a comment about "Nice shooting hotshot." On the other machines I tested, I was unable to reproduce this event, even with glass off. It's pretty scarce but I wanted it to be known. In a way it's actually pretty cool when it happens.

Conclusion
Thank you for taking the time to look over my mod. I'm proud of the work done and the results. When I started the project I thought it would be much easier than it turned out to be. Many hours of testing, different bulbs, different text on the signs and trying to sort out the best and easiest way for installation without soldering etc. Figuring out the correct relay circuit needed was the biggest headache. Ended up needing a unique relay circuit because a simple on and off will not work right with this machine do to the intermittent signals produced by Ted's blade. In the end, the results are really good in my opinion. If you have any questions you can email me at roadshowtopper@gmail.com

If you have any problems then please email me and I will do everything possible to resolve any issue you are having.
